FOUNDERS OF RUMAH BAKTI DATO' HARUN:



A group of community activists and top Selangor State Government officials founded and registered the "Selangor Orphan Education Organization" on 16 August 1966 under Registration Number ARS/Sel/50/66 out of a sense of responsibility and sympathy for orphans.

With this registration, the Committee has accelerated its establishment. The Selangor State Government granted Y.Bhg Allahyarham Dato' Haji Harun Idris and his wife Y.Bhg Datin Salmah Suleiman a 4.8-acre parcel of land in Mukim Hulu Kelang (HS.231) for their services, according to approval document number PHT.G.2/139 /75. Y.Bhg Allahyarham Dato' Haji Harun Idris is the Organization's Chairman to ensure this project's success.

After a Dinner Ceremony, Premiere, and member appeal, the organisation built a House of Worship at RM158,107.81. DYMM Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj ibni Almarhum Sultan Hisamuddin Alam Shah Sultan of Selangor would patronise RBHK. In 1976, 26 orphans—13 boys and 13 girls aged 6–12—were recruited. The Sultan of Selangor opened RBHK on 5 March 1977. In 2017, Rumah Bakti housed 66 orphans aged 7–17.

Two 2-story dormitories were finished on March 2, 1982. The Selangor State Government and public donations gave the two dormitory blocks RM600,000.00. 1984 created a surau. The previous surau was replaced in 2009. Dato' Haji Harun Idris' wife, Y.Bhg Datin Salmah Sulaiman, gifted this new surau. 1989 saw RBHK's new library. 1997 made this library a Resource Center. The 1984 surau became a Resource Center once RBHK received a new one. Library and computer room comprise the Resource Center. In remembrance of the late Y.Bhg Dato' Haji Harun Idris, the Selangor Orphan Education Organization has decided to convert Rumah Bakti Hulu Kelang (RBHK) to Rumah Bakti Dato' Harun (RBDH) and modify its emblem, which was approved by the Registrar of Societies on July 29, 2011.
